If you have a problem that is not addressed in this troubleshooting guide,

CANNOT GET INTERNET (Homepage or any website)

LAUNCH INTERNET EXPLORER
Go to tools menu-options
Connections tab
Check USE A PROXY box
Address: 10.0.0.8 Port 80
Check: Bypass Proxy for Local Internet

Change Homepage to www.vmahs.org or whatever you like
Hit Apply and Ok if necessary.
Hit HOME on the explorer window.

Quit IE.

CANNOT FIND P DRIVE

All P drives are listed by login name under your class year. ex: vmstudent\students\2001\login name

FIND P DRIVE FOLDER

Double Click My Computer
Find 200x students on vmstudent. It will change depending on your class year.
Open and find your login name
Copy with right mouse click on folder and paste shortcut on desktop. *Do not use PASTE. Must use Paste Shortcut.

Close windows

Check to see if any files are there. I suspect some files have been saved.

CANNOT GET MAIL

If you can get onto the Internet but can't get mail in outlook, your outlook settings simply cannot find your account. Check the OPTIONS from TOOLS Menu.

Make sure that in Mailservices, it says: Always use this profile and your login name appears. Click OK.

If you still cannot get mail, see Mrs. Roberts.

CANNOT LOG IN

If you have tried at least 5 times to unsuccessfully log on, your account may be locked out. It will remain locked for about 15 minutes. After that it will reset itself. If you absoulutely need to get into your account, notify Mrs. Roberts or Mrs. Entrekin and your account can be automatically unlocked.

If you feel someone is trying to log on as you, notify the technology office or your teacher immediately.

If your account still cannot be accessed, check to see that the network wire is secure in the back of the PC. Have your friend try to log on to the machine you are trying to use. If they are sucessful, then all network activity in that PC is fine. Your account will need to be looked at further.

Check to make sure the caps lock is not on. Passwords are all lower case. No spaces. Still cannot get in, see the Network Administrator in Rm 303.

CANNOT PRINT

If you cannot print do the following:

1) Make sure you have added the correct printers:

2) To add a printer:

3) Still can't print? See Network Administrator.

Cannot launch Internet Explorer or Outlook from Desktop on Campus PCs.

If you cannot launch the program, it is assumed that there is a problem with your profile.

WHAT TELLS ME I HAVE A PROBLEM?

You have a corrupt profile if:

SUGGESTIONS on what to do

1) Tell Mrs. Roberts or Mrs. Entrekin in Rm 303 Regina Mundi if you suspect your profile is corrupt.

Once your account has been reset by Network Administrator:

1) Find one PC in each lab and use that PC to prevent your profile from getting damaged.

3) Do the following steps to reset the profile. This is like starting over. All settings will be redone. This is the same procedure you went through at training in Sept and October.

PROCEDURE:

1. The Network Administrator has to delete your old profile and you need to log onto a PC in lab 313 to set it up again.
2. Log on with your login and password.
