Email and Network Account User Information

It is the school's policy to promote an open computing environment that allows access for all students to computing resources. In order to protect its information assets, the school relies heavily on its computerized information systems and recognizes that all computerized resources, including software programs, data, hardware, and networks, must be protected from misuse and operated and maintained in a secure environment. All users are expected to sign and adhere to the VMA Internet policy located in the student handbook.

Electronic communications facilities (such as email, VMA Intranet, and World Wide Web) are for the use of the Villa Maria community. Those permitted access to school's network or Internet services are responsible for using it in an effective, ethical and lawful manner. School communications may be picked up by the user on campus and during school hours only.

All students will have access to the following:

· All subject related software as provided by the Coordinator of Technology and the individual classroom teacher. These include, but are not limited to: Geometer's Sketchpad, One on One, Keyboarding, Peachtree Accounting Software, C++, MiniTab Statistical Software, and various CD ROMs.

Those interested students who would like to learn more about the network resources and how they can develop materials are encouraged to participate in the student Technology Club, the first and third Thursday of the month in 305.

Your password must remain on file with the Office of Technology. If a change is made sometime during the school year, you must email the Coordinator of Technology (lroberts@vmahs.org) with the current information change.

If you feel that your account has been violated, tampered with or locked out, please contact the Technology Office at once. You are responsible for all that occurs with your account and private (P) drive. It is suggested that you back up important files from your P Drive on a zip disk. Only you will be able to access your P Drive account and its files.

Your account will be periodically reviewed monthly and cleared at the end of every school year.

Students are responsible for adhering to all policies described in the Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) outlined in the student handbook. Network users will use their privilege responsibly including use of network resources, email and web resources. Misrepresentation (forgery) of the identity of a sender or source of electronic information is prohibited. This includes VMA account emails as well as all other Internet accounts with other service providers who send mail to VMA users. All users must realize that e-mail messages and other information transferred by users on the network may contain thoughts, conclusions and biased perceptions that were never intended for publication. There may be liability for defamation for spreading false and disparaging information about third parties, particularly comments on students, personnel or vendors. Such discussions or use of the network is expressly prohibited.
