The Warmest House Wins

Students in Mrs. Friedrichsen’s Honors Environmental Science class tested the power of the sun in a solar house contest. Each student built a model passive solar house using paper boxes. The goal of the project was to help students visualize how solar radiation is absorbed and retained as heat in eco-friendly homes.  Students used a variety of insulations, foil reflectors, windows, dark colors, and sealants to complete their projects.

The winning houses belonged to Adeline DelGatto and Amelia Iacobucci (team), Isabella Orloff, and Megan Conrad and Maggie O’Neill (team).
