Girls ruled at Devon Prep’s Battle of the Bands when Villa Maria’s band Jaded Grace took first prize on Saturday, February 7. Leader singer Erin Alessandroni, keyboardist Danielle Knopp, and drummer Jenna Brignola wowed the crowd with six songs: Drops of Jupiter by Train, Rolling in the Deep by Adele, Ain’t It Fun by Paramore, Unwritten by Natasha Beddingfield, Rather Be by Clean Bandit, and Girl on Fire by Alicia Keys.
Not only was Jaded Grace the only all-girl band, Brignola reports they were the only girls in the competition at all. A large contingent of Villa students came out to enjoy the show and support their schoolmates.
“I don’t know of any other school that could band together like that in support of three classmates,” Brignola said. “They even started the ‘Should’ve been a Hurricane what what’ cheer at the end. There was so much school spirit, and it wasn’t even at our school, and I just felt really proud to be a Villa girl.”
The band has been together since November 2014. After forming during Theology class, they initally planned to play only at Tri-M meetings. “We are a cover band, and we play pop songs that many people our age know and love so that the audience can really interact with us,” Brignola said.
Congratulations Jaded Grace!
