Cross country team members used a training exercise to break through mental barriers both on the field and off. Coach Phil Genther had each girl take home a wooden board and write on it some obstacles they would like to overcome. The items could relate to cross country or anything else in their lives. Team members then gathered before practice to share some of their goals if they chose, before stepping up to break their board with their hand.
The exercise gave the girls the confidence to challenge themselves — and to believe they could break that thick board with just their hand!
