Sophomores and two juniors were officially inducted into the Children of Mary organization during a mass on Friday, October 2. Father James Flynn, OSA, blessed the medals and lapel pins the officers and members receive, and called the students to “take on a mission to do good.” Father Flynn asked the students and staff to practice seeing the world through the lens of the suffering of other people in order to become a person filled with the spirit of the Lord.
Each student attending Villa Maria participates in the spirituality that flows from the school’s oldest and best loved tradition. The Children of Mary association is characterized by prayer, service, and devotion to the Church through Mary, Mother of the Lord.
The group conducts a number of charitable projects throughout the year, like the annual mission drive, which begins October 5. Other projects include the Thanksgiving food collection, Christmas giving tree project, and volunteer service at the Salvation Army and at Camilla Hall. As other occasions arise, students respond to the calls for special service.
