Field Hockey Continues on Unbeaten Path

Villa Maria has improved to 8-0-1 with big road wins over Mount Saint Joseph and Merion Mercy.

Coach Daan Polders said, “A solid game from Villa over Mount with good and strong play by Miller and Siana. Danielle Acuna made some good saves in goal today. Villa had an overload of opportunities but did not capitalize these. Dickinson scored her first one of the season thanks to her attacking efforts: she deserves it.”

wDSC06638Thursday in the rain Villa traveled to Merion and faced a formidable opponent. Nicole Tsiaras capitalized on two penalty stroke goals against Merion. Coach Polders commented, “A quick 1-0 was on the board for Villa by Megan Vermeil with fast and aggressive play. Villa continued playing strong going upfield with attacking hockey which resulted in a lot of opportunities and corners. Nicole Tsiaras scored twice and Hannah Miller scored number 4 just before the break in the pouring rain. Second half it rained even harder which made playing harder and did not result in any more goals.”

Villa’s season continues with games against Villa Joe, Merion Mercy, and Gywnedd Mercy.
