Golfers Finish in Third Place at AACA Championships


Villa Maria finished its golf season on Wednesday at the AACA League Golf Championships held at Honeybrook Golf Course. In head-to-head matches, Villa Maria narrowly lost to Villa Joseph Marie 243 – 246, while defeating Nazareth Academy to finish 7 – 5 in AACA league competition, good for a third place finish.

Villa’s top 5 scores included Gianna Ward, 47; Laura Lucarelli, 48; Erin DiDonato, 49; Carly Brogan, 51; and, Brooke Sander, 51.

Gianna Ward was named a League All-Star, and led the scoring for Villa Maria with a 47, as she did for all 12 matches this season. Gianna will complete in Districts on Monday, October 12 at Gilbertsville Golf Club. If she finishes in the top 12, she will move on to the next round on Tuesday, October 13 at Turtle Creek Golf Club.

AACA-champsGolf-1webOverall, it was a great event for the girls and a nice send-off for the two seniors who participated in the event, Laura Lucarelli and Sarah Denbigh. Villa Maria wishes all nine seniors — Sarah Denbigh, Grace Funchion, Katie Gosselin, Julia Hardie, Sarah Hilditch, Kathy Krepelka, Laura Lucarelli, Kelly McBride, and Grace McManus –all the best in their future endeavors.
