“St. Lucy” visited Villa Maria at lunch time on Dec 13, her feast day. St. Lucy was known for helping the poor. She also helped hide persecuted Catholics in the dark underground catacombs. She would wear a wreath of candles on her head to light her way in the dark as she carried food and drink. In Scandinavian countries on St. Lucy’s feast day a girl is dressed in white with a red sash to represent her martyrdom, and a crown of candles. She carries rolls and cookies. VMA’s three St. Lucys and their assistants distributed cookies to all the students at lunch.
