Mr. Miles’ Accounting and CP Economics classes traveled to Citizens Bank Park yesterday to take a behind-the-scenes tour of the Park and the Phillies facilities. After the tour, the girls had lunch with the Chief Financial Officer of the Phillies, John Nickolas, who answered their questions concerning the economics and finances of operating a professional sports team. The questions covered such topics as promoting a team when it is not performing well on the field, communicating with the media, managing operating costs when revenues are down, and the effect of TV and radio contracts.
Included in the tour was a visit to the dugout and locker room, where employees were starting to pack up for spring training. It was a great learning experience, even for the non-sports fan.
