Four Villa Maria students were awarded medals in the 2016 Grand Concours (National French Contest). Sophomore Lauren O’Donnell received a gold medal for scoring in the 95th percentile, and ranking 8th locally and 9th nationally. Sophomore Victoria Gauntner and freshmen Ana Belen Guerin and Nicole Slaats placed in the 80th percentile and were awarded bronze medals. The girls and their families, along with World Language Department Chair Dianne Goddard, attended an awards ceremony at Chestnut Hill College on Tuesday, May 17.
This year 85,000 students from all 50 states and Puerto Rico (including 3,000 students in the Philadelphia Chapter) participated in the annual competition sponsored by the American Association of the Teachers of French (AATF). This exam is a multiple-choice test of approximately 70 questions covering listening comprehension, vocabulary, and grammar in context, as well as readings.
