Villa Maria’s chapter of the Tri-M Music Honor Society recognized officers and inducted nineteen new members in an evening a ceremony in the Marian Center on November 3. Tri-M president Jessica Perry outlined the organization’s mission and activities in a presentation, and historian Victoria Gauntner explained the symbolism of the Tri-M seal. New members were then inducted, current members were recognized, and all were administered the Tri-M pledge.
The guest speaker for the evening was Dr. Thomas Connolly, professor emeritus of the Music Department at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Connolly spoke about contemplative silence and using music to inspire silent prayer.
The evening was highlighted by performances from the students and staff. Music Director Leah Kim and piano instructor Ieva Carucci played Praeludium and Allegro by Kreisler, and the Villa Maria Orchestra performed the Star-Spangled Banner, and Eine Kleine Nachtmusik by Mozart. The Madrigal Singers, directed by music department chair Dr. Anthony Mosakowski, performed the folk song All the Pretty Little Horses.
Tri-M International Honor Society recognizes secondary school music students for their accomplishments in music, academic excellence, school involvement and community service. Villa Maria’s Tri-M Chapter 1227 is the primary sponsor of all music department activities, including concerts and musical services. Villa Maria’s Chapter 1227 has garnered numerous state and international awards for their outstanding service to school and community.
