The Hurricanes fell to undefeated St. Basil in the AACA title game at La Salle High School on Tuesday, February 14. Villa kept the game close in the first half, but lost ground in the third quarter, ultimately losing the game by a score of 21-41. St. Basil’s 6-foot-4 senior Natalie Kucowski, who has committed to play at Lafayette next year, led a team that was strong on both offense and defense. The Hurricanes, who started seniors Erin DiDonato and Marissa Picinich, sophomores Julia Saymar and Abby Walheim, and freshmen Paige Lauder, fought hard throughout.
After the game, Villa Maria accepted the second place trophy, and Abby Walheim was named to the AACA All Star first team. The Hurricanes will now begin District One playoffs, facing Penncrest at home in the Marian Center gym on Tuesday, February 21.
