The Villa Maria Hurricanes battled back from a ten point deficit to take the first-round District 1 playoff game to overtime on Tuesday, February 21, at Villa. The team then went on a run in the closing two minutes of overtime to win the game 48-40. The Hurricanes won despite playing without their injured lead scorer Abby Walheim.
Villa started strong, ending the first quarter with a 15-5 lead. Penncrest battled back, and the first half ended with the opponent up 20-19. Things got worse for Villa in the third quarter as Penncrest widened their lead. The third quarter ended with the Hurricanes down 25-32. With three minutes left in regulation, Villa had pulled within 2 points, and then found themselves up by 3 with 15 seconds left on the clock. Penncrest was fouled going to the basket, and that basket and foul shot tied the game and sent it into overtime.
The Hurricanes face Bishop Shanahan at home on Friday, February 24 at 4:40 in the District 1 quarterfinal.
