VMA pitcher Alyssa Viscardo didn’t allow a single hit as Villa Maria defeated Merion Mercy Academy 11-0 on Wednesday. The Hurricanes grabbed an early lead on an MMA error in the first inning, scoring one run. They added four more runs in the second inning. The team really got on a roll with six runs in the fourth inning, which included a single by Ana Ciarrocchi, a single by Fran Delviscio, and a triple by Alyssa Viscardo.
Overall, the Hurricanes had ten hits in the game. Lisa Becker, Delviscio, and Viscardo each collected multiple hits. In addition to the no-hitter, Viscardo led the Hurricanes with four runs batted in, and went 2-for-3 on the day.
Before the game, the team honored breast cancer survivors and raised awareness. Villa faculty member Marguerite Paolantonio and Villa parent Carmen Chick, both cancer survivors, were recognized before the game with flowers. Both women then threw out a first pitch.*
