The Villa Maria school community celebrated the end of the school year with a prayer service, awards assembly, and closing faculty luncheon.
After brief classes in the morning, the juniors, sophomores and freshmen assembled in the auditorium. Class flags and prayers were presented to representatives of the rising classes, signaling advancement to the next year. A flag was also presented for the incoming Class of 2021, as the school looks forward to their arrival in the fall.
Following the prayer service, Sr. Regina presented awards and recognition for achievement in academics, music, activities and sports, and attendance. Several scholarships were also presented.
When the students had been dismissed for the summer, faculty and staff attended a lunch in the cafeteria celebrating another successful year, and marking the retirement or departure of several teachers. Math teacher Sr. Margaret Peter leaves Villa Maria after 10 years, and will serve at Little Flower High School in Philadelphia. Mrs. Teresa Friedrichsen is retiring after 24 years of teaching biology and environmental science. And, Mr. Richard Skoniczin is retiring after 17 years teaching music at Villa. Villa Maria sincerely thanks these dedicated faculty members.
The faculty also celebrated the upcoming summer wedding of physical education teacher Michelle DeLaurentis, presenting her with gifts and a cake.
