The Villa Maria family mourns the loss of beloved former parent and longtime coach Jim Henderson. Jim coached at Villa for 22 years, and will be remembered for his gentle manner and deep commitment to the students. Jim was also a committed Villa Maria dad, with daughters Linda ’84, Sharon ’85 and Janice ’92 graduating from the school.
Jim was a versatile coach. He may have been best known for coaching cross country, track and field, and indoor track, but during his long Villa career he also coached soccer, and did a stint as the goalie coach for field hockey.
“It is rare to find coaches these days who stay at a school for 22 years. Jim’s longevity at Villa is a real testament to his commitment to the students at Villa Maria,” said Kathy McCartney, Villa’s basketball coach and Director of Advancement. “He made such an impact, both on and off the field and track, on our athletes. He not only shared his expertise in sports but he also helped the athletes grow as young women. Jim stayed connected to many of the girls long after graduation. It was a pleasure and a privilege to call him Coach.”
