Villa Maria’s swim team won its eighth consecutive PIAA AA state team championship on Saturday, March 17, with a score of 178. Dallas High School finished in second with 139 points, Gwynedd Mercy came in third with 126, and Villa Maira (Erie, PA) Mercy was fourth with 117 points.
The team victory was anchored by a strong performances in the 500 yard freestyle. Kaitlyn Agger, Katherine Fronczak, and Alexa Turco finished 2, 3 and 4 in the event. Fronczak and Turco came in 5th and 8th in the 200 yard freestyle. Other strong individual performances include Kaitlyn Agger finishing 12th in the 100 yard butterfly, and Kira Buchler and Madeline Ladd finsihing 5th and 9th in the 100 yard backstroke. Riley Miller was awarded 8th place in the 1 meter diving competition.
The team also accumulated points by placing well in multiple relays races. The team was 7th in the 200 yard medley relay and the 400 yard freestyle relay; and, 9th in the 200 yard freestyle relay and the 200 yard freestyle relay.
