Villa Maria musicians entertained family and friends with a beautiful concert that included orchestra, string ensemble, handbell, and vocal performances. The orchestra began the show with a rousing performance of Pirates of the Caribbean, followed by An American in Paris, and Footloose. The handbell choir performed several traditional numbers, and then surprised the audience with a rendition of the Eagles fight song.
The Madrigals featured the Adele song When We Were Young, a piece chosen and directed by the students themselves. The string quartet performed a range of music, from Over the Rainbow to Tango Time. The concert chorus closed the show with four songs, singing Seasons of Love for the finale.
Villa Maria’s concert included 95 individual performers, with many of the students participating in multiple ensembles. Fine Arts department chair Dr. Anthony Mosakowski estimates that a total of approximately 2000 hours were spent in rehearsals, a figure that does not include individual practices and lessons. Many of the performers also tried out for music for the first time on coming to Villa Maria.
