Lacrosse Team Wins State Championship

Villa Maria’s lacrosse team won its first-ever state championship on Saturday, June 9, 2018. The Hurricanes defeated Kennard-Dale High School by a score of 17-5 in the PIAA girls’ AA title match.

The lacrosse victory is the third state title for Villa Maria in the 2017-18 school year. Field hockey and the swim team both won PIAA championships this year.

The victory was a team effort, as 8 different Hurricanes contributed goals. Senior Erin Finley scored 4 times in the game, and reached a high school career total of 100 goals. Sophomore Hannah Young and junior Sarah Delaney each scored hat tricks; juniors Paige DeMutis and Adele Iacobucci each netted 2 goals; and, sophomore Bridget Finley, and juniors Kristy Kucia and Abby Walheim scored 1 apiece.

On the defensive side, the Hurricanes held Kennard-Dale’s three scorers to a total of five goals. Villa Maria goalie senior Maddie Medve recorded 6 saves.
