Villa Maria’s swim team has built a 3-3 record so far in the 2019 season. Coach Frtiz Schumann says, “We have another strong swim team this year. After some early dual meet losses to large school opponents such as Conestoga and Unionville, we are 3-3 at this point and on a 3-meet win streak after a fun and very narrow win over the Hill School.”
The team has 4 dual meets remaining in the season, and hopes to finish with a winning record. They have their sights set on defending their 15 straight PIAA District one titles, with diving scheduled for February 23, and swimming set for March 2-3 at LaSalle.
“While defending our 8 consecutive State titles will be a definite reach this season, we are not giving it up to any team without trying our absolute best to repeat!” Schumann said.
The Hurricanes have more divers this year than in the past — 8 total. Schumann comments, “If we are going to repeat with any championships, we will undoubtedly owe our success, in large part, to the strongest dive team coach Steve Curlee has ever had.” Coach Cathy Hay says four of the 8 divers have already qualified for the District 1 competition.
