The Villa Maria community marked the Chinese New Year with get-togethers, meals and other activities. On Tuesday the student body enjoyed a Chinese lunch and red and gold decorations in the cafeteria.
Ms. Sarah Carroll’s French class made cultural comparisons through art and food. Students made origami pigs to mark the Year of the Pig, and made and tasted a home-made nian gao, or Chinese New Year cake.
On Thursday, a number of Villa Maria’s international students gathered with their Villa Maria American counterparts to celebrate the occasion in the cafeteria. The students read cards sent by the faculty, received gold foil-wrapped chocolate coins for good luck, and enjoyed Chinese cuisine.
