The rowing team competed in the Philadelphia City Championship Regatta on May 4 and 5. Saturday, teams competed for a spot to race in the finals on Sunday. Three of Villa Maria’s five boats qualified to race on Sunday.
The Novice Single, Olivia Kenney, placed 4th in finals. The Freshmen Double, Hannah Bauhaus and Kylie Krumenacker, placed 4th in their final, and the Freshman Quad, Cece Hricko, Abbie Zarkowski, Lyndsey Downs, and Mia Durante placed 6th in the final.
The Novice Double, Megan Gibbons and Emily Tissue, and the Lightweight Double, Carina Rose and Maddie Girard, missed making it to finals but competed extremely well in the tough water and weather conditions of the weekend. All of the boats did well in their highly competitive categories.
The Hurricanes were well-represented for their second year on the river, able to enter 5 boats in competitive categories. The team is continuing to work hard over the next week as they prepare for the Stotesbury Cup Regatta, an international high school regatta with high school athlete from over 180 clubs from the US and Canada to be held in Philadelphia on May 17 and 18.
