Music Students Perform in New York City

Villa Maria junior and violinist Millie Slifer and sophomore and harpist Millena Chirillo performed in the Rising Talent Festival award recital on May 11, 2019 in the Italian Academy Teatro at Columbia University in New York City. The duo played Chant D’Amour Op.29 for Violin and Harp by Verdalle. They received the “Grand Prix” (2nd prize) at the festival in March 2019. Villa Maria Director of Music Ms. Leah Kim, along with family members, accompanied the musicians.

After the Rising Talent concert, the group attended senior Rachel Chen’s end-of-year recital at the Manhattan School of Music. Rachel played pieces by Bach, Mozart, Barber, and Elgar. She has been attending the school on weekends for several years, taking a weekly private lesson with Maria Radicheva, along with such classes as theory and ear training. She has also played in their advanced orchestra.

Congratulations to these excellent musicians!
