Field Hockey Ends Season at State Semifinal

The field hockey team ended its 2019 season at the PIAA AA state semifinal game against Wyoming Valley West, losing 3-1. Playing in the bitter cold, the Hurricanes battled hard throughout, cheered on by fellow students who braved the cold to cheer on their team. The game was scoreless at the half. Wyoming Valley scored early in the second half, and sophomore Annie Shaw got Villa on the board ten minutes later. Wyoming went on to score twice more, however, bringing an end to the Hurricanes’ strong run through the playoffs.

“To finish the season as strong as we did says all you need about this team and how hard they work,” coach Katie Evans told PA Prep Live. “The future is very bright for the team coming back next year.”

Congratulations to the team on a great season!

The field hockey team advanced to the PIAA AA state semifinal game with a 2-1 victory over rival Merion Mercy on Saturday, November 9. This was the fourth meeting of the season for the two AACA teams, and Merion had won the previous 3 matches. Maura O’Hare and Annie Shaw scored the goals for the Hurricanes.

The Hurricanes (15-9) play District 2 champion Wyoming Valley West on Tuesday, November 12, in the state semifinal at 5 p.m. at Emmaus High School.
