Villa Maria dancers and musicians celebrated the Christmas season with a concert featuring all of the school’s performers: Orchestra, Handbell Choir, Madrigal Singers, String Ensemble, Concert Chorus, and Dance Company.
As video “snow” fell in the auditorium, the orchestra and chorus opened the concert with “White Christmas.” The orchestra then performed “The Little Drummer Boy,” “Do You Hear What I Hear,” and “Festival of Carols.”
The Handbell Choir then played “O Come Rejoicing,” “Jesus, Jesus, Rest Your Head,” and “Nutcracker Sweets.”
The Dance Company performed three pieces: “Lost in Translation;” “Lonely;” and, “The Night Before Christmas,” a dance choreographed by the students themselves.
The Madrigal Singers sang four songs: “Gaudete Christus est natus,” “O My Dear Heart,” “Mary Did You Know,” and “Patapan Fantasia.”
The String Ensemble took the stage to play “The First Noel,” “Christmas Concerto,” and “Christmas Portrait.” They were then joined by the Concert Chorus for “Christmas Canon.”
The Concert Chrous performed the popular “Jingle Bell Rock,” as well as “Christmas is Coming.” The chorus also performed their own version of “Gaudete.”
For the finale everyone — including faculty and some alumnae — took to the stage and risers to sing a medley of traditional Christmas carols.
Congratulations to all of the Villa Maria musicians, dancers, and faculty on an excellent concert and a perfect way to celebrate the Christmas season!
