Divers to Compete at District Meet

Villa’s swimming and diving team is nearing the end of its season, with several divers advancing to District competition, and swimmers preparing for their final virtual meet.

On Saturday, February 20, juniors Peyton Kintzley and Morgan Kelly will compete in the District 1 Diving Championships at North Penn High School. Junior Kylie Krumenacker and sophomore Mary Cate Doughty are alternates. Congratulations to these athletes on their impressive diving during a challenging season.

The Hurricanes’ last regular meet was canceled due to the weather. To advance to the District 1 meet, swimmers must qualify as one of the top 8 swimmers based on times from previous virtual meets, as participation is restricted due to the pandemic.

“We have been fortunate to secure use of Malvern’s pool this winter for an abbreviated swimming season,” said coach Fritz Schumann. “Tomorrow we hope to swim our final “virtual” meet. In our case, virtual simply means we are swimming against ourselves in our pool, but with PIAA officials present and officiating so our posted times count toward a possible district swim.”
“With all of the challenges,” he said, “we have still had a fun season and when we have been able to workout, the workouts have been great and the girls have had fun! We’ll see what transpires over the next few weeks – wish us luck as we finish our season!”
