Students Take Emmaus Day to Serve Others

Villa celebrated Emmaus 2021 with service activities on campus for the juniors, sophomores, and freshmen.  The special day was facilitated by the student service leaders, junior Maia Dechiario, junior Joy Wolfe, and sophomore Devyn Stek. The day closed with a viewing of the 2016 film Selma and the completion of a reflection.

The students’ efforts benefitted the following partners:

UNITE hats — Villa junior Katrina Heppelmann

  • Katrina designed the hat and had it manufactured for sale
  • Proceeds from sale of hats going to social justice nonprofits
  • For each hat sold, 3 hats are donated to nonprofits

Butterfly Baskets — Villa alum, Mrs. Katie Hill
  • Supports people who have lost a baby or who are experiencing infertility
  • Girls put together baskets for those who have lost a baby or are experiencing infertility

  • Rescue pet adoptions
  • Girls made and donated pet toys

Cards for Hospitalized Kids
  • Cards for hospitalized children
  • Girls made cards for hospitalized children

Cardz for Kidz
  • Cards in various languages for hospitalized children
  • Girls made cards in Spanish, French, and Chinese for hospitalized children

Chester County Food Bank
  • Providing food and resources for the food insecure in Chester County
  • Girls decorated food boxes for the elderly and wrote cards which included a tea bag

Empty Bowls — Phoenixville Area Community Services (PACS)
  • Food insecurity program in Phoenixville
  • Girls painted bowls for their Empty Bowls program

Orion Communities
  • Provides bridge case management for families and individuals in crisis in Chester County
  • Girls addressed and stamped envelopes for mailings
