Villa Maria Breaks Ground for Student Union Building

Villa Maria held a ceremonial groundbreaking for the new Student Union Building on Tuesday, May 25, 2021.

After a prayer service, honorary campaign chairs Patty Baldi Holloway ’73 P ’05 GP ’19 and Jack and Nancy Hewes P ’95 ’97 ’04, joined chairs Leo and Maryanne Parsons P ’14 and Diane Zwaan P ’05 ’10 ’14, along with principal Sr, Regina Ryan, IHM,  in lifting ceremonial shovelfuls of dirt in front of the construction site.

The new Student Union Center will create a central hub for the campus, and serve as the school’s “front door.” The building will house a new, larger chapel, providing more space for theology classes, daily Communion services, the Alumnae Memorial Mass, or simply will provide a respite from the whirlwind of daily life. The expansive dining hall creates more room for meals, studying, or simply hanging out with friends. The new Counseling suite will give students easy access to their college and school counselors, and collaborative spaces will foster the academic group work that is crucial to preparing students for college and the workplace.

Villa Maria is extremely grateful to all the very generous supporters of the capital campaign who are making the Student Union possible: alumnae, past and current parents, the IHM Sisters, board members, and all the friends of Villa Maria.
