Christmas Concert 2021

Jingle bells was the theme for the evening as Villa Maria musicians celebrated the Christmas season at the annual concert with all of the school’s musical performers: Orchestra, Handbell Choir, Madrigal Singers, String Ensemble, and Concert Chorus. Hurricane winds, Flute Choir, and Hurricane Winds.

The chorus and orchestra joined forces to open the show with a Holiday Sing-Along. “Do You Hear What I Hear.” The orchestra followed with performances of “Christmas Treasures,” “Do You Hear What I Hear,” and “Holiday Cheers.”

The Handbell Choir played three songs: “Hark, The Herald Angels Sing,” “Creator of the Stars at Night,” and “Jingle Bellorama.”

The Flute Choir, a new group at Villa, played “Angels We Have Heard on High.”

The Madrigal Singers followed the flutes, singing “In dulci jubilo,” “Ríu, ríu, chíu,” “Ave Maria,” and, “Jingle Bells.” Senior pianist Victoria Van Derzee followed the Madrigals with a performance of Rachmaninoff’s “Prelude in C-Sharp Minor (Op. 3, No.2).”

The String Ensemble performed “One Winter Night,” “Christmas Time is Here,” and “The Bells of Christmas.” A new group, Hurricane Winds, played three selections: “O Christmas Tree,” “Joy to the World,” and “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.”

The Concert Chorus returned to sing “A Carol Tapestry,” “Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!,” and “Veni Veni Emmanuel.”

For the finale, musicians and singers joined together with the audience to sing a medley of Christmas favorites.

Congratulations to all of the Villa Maria musicians on an excellent concert.
