Excellence at a Glance

  • Over the past 6 years, 10% of each senior class has been recognized by the National Merit Corporation for scholarly excellence.
  • The Class of 2014 applied to 217 different schools and currently attends 50 different colleges in 18 states and 3 countries. 35% were invited into Honors Programs.
  • The Class of 2014 earned $17.6 million in merit scholarships.
  • In 2014, Villa Maria had 128 AP students and 100% took the AP exams. 26% were recognized as AP Scholars and 15% were recognized with Honors or Distinction.
  • On average, 45% of Villa Maria students become members of the National Honor Society (minimum GPA of 3.8).
  • Every senior participates in the Capstone project, affording them an opportunity to explore future career interests. Students have worked with a Newbury Prize winner, a renowned CHOP researcher, a Nashville song writer, a literacy center, a home for disabled children, Penn Veterinary Center, Lily Pulitzer, and Comcast Sports.
  • All students are members of Children of Mary, Villa Maria’s service organization. Students are formally inducted in their sophomore year.
  • Thanksgiving baskets are coordinated and delivered to local families in need each November.
  • The Giving Tree project collects gifts for children at St. Rose of Lima School. Villa Maria students deliver these gifts each year.
  • Students volunteer at Camilla Hall each month.
  • Service trips to El Salvador and New Orleans allow students to build homes and volunteer in community centers and urban garden projects.
  • Villa Maria has captured 54 District 1 Championships in Basketball, Cross Country, Field Hockey, Golf, Soccer, Softball, Swimming/Diving, Tennis, Track & Field, and Volleyball.
  • Villa Maria has captured 11 State Championships in Field Hockey, Golf, Swimming, and Volleyball.
  • Villa Maria was PIAA State Swimming Champions for the 5th consecutive year in 2015 and District Champions for the 13th straight year.
  • Villa Maria has won 4 PIAA District I Sportsmanship Awards.
  • Villa Maria has had several coaches named “Coach of the Year” in Basketball, Cross Country, Field Hockey, Soccer, Swimming, Tennis, and Volleyball.
  • Maurene Polley, former Athletic Director and Field Hockey Coach, was named to the National Field Hockey Coaches’ Hall of Fame.
  • Villa Maria’s Chapter 1227 of the Tri-M Music Honor Society has captured more international titles than any other chapter in the history of the organization, with a record-breaking number of 1st place awards for their service to the school and the greater community.
  • Villa Maria has had the most student members in the All-Catholic Orchestra from any one school for over 15 years, as well as a large membership in the All-Catholic Band and Chorus.
  • Each year, Villa Maria has representatives in the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association’s District Band, Orchestra, and Chorus, which has led to participation at the Region and State level.
  • Over 50 piano students each year participate in the National Piano Guild Auditions. Many also participate in the Main Line Music Teachers Association Constance Murray Piano Festival at West Chester University.
  • Each year, student artwork is displayed at a local restaurant, San Nicola.
  • Students have been awarded scholarships to attend the University of the Arts weekend program.
  • Kate Brown, Art Teacher, has been named Citadel's Heart of Learning High School Teacher of the Year.
