Villa Maria administers the High School Placement Test (HSPT) as our Entrance-Scholarship Exam. Test dates for the Class of 2030 will take place on Saturday, September 27 and Sunday, October 19, 2025.

A Villa Maria application must be on file in the Admissions Office by the application deadline of November 5, 2025, before a student can be considered for a scholarship. Learn about applying here.

Complete the Visual Arts Scholarship Application under Fine Arts Scholarships in the Application Checklist by November 12, 2025. 
Scholarship applications open on September 2, 2025.

Complete an Artist’s Statement, no longer than one page, typed and double-spaced, as well as a portfolio with six (6) works of art. This work must be original and recent.

Artist's Statement

Your artist's statement should talk about your body of work, your processes, and describes you as an artist and student.

Your Portfolio must Include original artwork: 

• Three (3) works of art from direct observation (still life, self portrait, interior space, exterior space, etc.) in any medium
• Three (3) works of art completed in your 7th or 8th grade year
  • Do not copy from photographs or the Internet

Please submit your portfolio and artist’s statement by November 12, 2025, to the Main Office. All materials must include your name and be neatly presented in a portfolio case.

One student will be the recipient of the Visual Arts Scholarship. It will be renewable each year based on the following criteria:

• Student understands and follows the IHM Charism and upholds Villa Maria Academy’s Core Values.
• Student is in good standing academically and has a conduct grade no lower than passing (P).
• Student maintains an A in all art courses.
• Student participates in and helps with Freshman Art Club and Sophomore Art Club.
• Student takes the following courses:
  • 9th Grade: Studio 1
  • 10th Grade: Studio 2 (can also take a .25 credit elective)
  • 11th Grade: Art Major (can also take AP Art History and/or one or two .25 credit electives)
  • 12th Grade: AP Studio Art or Honors Advanced Art Major (can also take AP Art History and/or one or two .25 credit electives)
