Rowing Camps

VMA Rowing is hosting two 1-week Learn-to-Row sessions!

This one-week camp is designed to give prospective rowers an introduction to the sport. Our camp will focus on the basics of sweep rowing (one oar) and coxswains (athlete that steers the crew).

Learn-to-Row starts on land with safety training, boat handling basics, and the teaching of the rowing stroke on rowing machines. Subsequent sessions will be on the water with campers joined by experienced Villa team members in 8-oared shells.

The sessions are coached by Villa Maria’s rowing coaching staff: Head Coach Liz Miller and Assistant Coach Alair Southerton.

By the end of the camp, you will have learned the basics of sweep rowing and will be ready to join the novice rowing squad.

Who is eligible?

Students going into grades 7-12, with no or very little rowing experience, who are interested in discovering rowing, or know that they want to prepare for the 2023-24 racing season.

Our sessions will be an intensive 5 day session running Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon each day (drop off no earlier than 7:45 a.m., pick up by 12:15 p.m.). Rowers are expected to be at all practices; if you can’t make a practice please communicate with your coach in advance so he or she can plan accordingly.

Where?

Sessions will be held at Hines Rowing Center in Conshohocken on the Schuylkill River (the big red building), 801 Washington Street,  Conshohocken PA.
