Please join Villa Maria for the dedication of our new Yamaha C2X grand piano, and a performance by David Kim, renowned violinist and Concertmaster of The Philadelphia Orchestra, and Dr. Ron Matthews, pianist and President of Eastern University. The performance will be held in the Marian Center Auditorium on Villa Maria’s campus.

Art Exhibit

Four local artists will also exhibit their work at the event: Enzhao Liu, Karen D’Allaird, Girija Kaimal, and Kate Brown, chair of Villa Maria’s art department.

David Kim

Renowned violinist David Kim is the Concertmaster of The Philadelphia Orchestra. He appears as soloist with The Philadelphia Orchestra each season, as well as with numerous orchestras around the world. He also appears internationally at festivals such as Arizona Musicfest, Kingston Chamber Music Festival, and Taipei Music Academy and Festival.

Mr. Kim began playing the violin at the age of three. He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from The Juilliard School. Mr. Kim has been awarded Honorary Doctorates from Eastern University in suburban Philadelphia, the University of Rhode Island, and Dickinson College.

Mr. Kim frequently appears as a guest with famed modern hymn writers Keith and Kristyn Getty at venues such as the Grand Ole Opry House, The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, and Carnegie Hall. He is the founder and Artistic Director of the annual David Kim Orchestral Institute of Cairn University in Philadelphia, where he is also a Professor of Violin Studies. Additionally, Mr. Kim serves as Distinguished Artist at the Robert McDuffie Center for Strings at Mercer University in Macon, GA.

Dr. Ronald A. Matthews

Dr. Ron MatthewsDr. Ronald A. Matthews is the president of Eastern University. Dr. Matthews has served as Professor of Music, Chair of the Music Department, and Executive Director of the Fine and Performing Arts Division.

Born and raised in Philadelphia, his education includes undergraduate work in Church Music and Organ at Westminster Choir College, a master’s degree in Choral Conducting from Temple University, and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Combs College of Music in Composition with an emphasis in Orchestral Conducting.

Dr. Matthews has conducted, recorded, and performed in France, Germany, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Switzerland and the Vatican, and is a commissioned and published composer. From 2005 until 2018, he was the Pastor of Worship Arts at Church of the Saviour in Wayne, PA.
