Dance Scholarships

The Dance Scholarship is awarded to an advanced dancer based upon her individual audition. The $600 Dance Scholarship will cover course fees and costumes. Applications for the Class of 2026 are due by November 17, 2021. Students interested in the Dance Scholarship must complete the following:

Register & Sit for the Entrance-Scholarship Exam

Villa Maria administers the High School Placement Test (HSPT) as our Entrance-Scholarship Exam. Test dates for the Class of 2026 will take place on Sunday, October 17 & Saturday, October 23.

Complete the Dance Scholarship Application

Complete the Dance Scholarship Application (below) no later than November 17, 2021. Please note that this application deadline has now passed.

Please note that by applying for the Dance Scholarship, you are also simultaneously applying for the VMA Dance Company.

Submit Letter of Recommendation

Please have your current dance instructor send a letter of recommendation to Ms. Tanina Urbanski, Dance Company Director, at using the subject line: “Dance Scholarship Recommendation: STUDENT NAME”). The letter of recommendation must be received by November 17, 2021.

Attend Audition

Applicants will be required to attend an in-person audition on Monday, November 22, from 3:30-4:45 p.m. in the Marian Center Auditorium. The audition will run as an open class with all students dancing together. A student guide will be present to assist you. You will have access to a warm‐up area.

Scholarship applicants are also asked to prepare a one-minute solo to perform at the end of the audition in ballet, jazz, modern, lyrical, or contemporary featuring the following movements; pirouette both en dehors and en dedans, grande jeté and/or developpé leaps, grand battement with both right and left leg, movement to and from the floor.

The audition is private. Parents are not permitted to watch the audition. Unfortunately, audition times may not be changed. If you are unable to attend the in-person audition, please contact Ms. Urbanski at as soon as possible.

Dance Scholarship auditions will be held on Monday, November 22, from 3:30-4:45 p.m., and the scholarship will be awarded by mid-December 2021. 

The Dance Scholarship is renewable each year based on the following criteria:

  • Student understands and follows the IHM Charism and upholds Villa Maria Academy’s Core Values.
  • Student is in good standing academically and has a conduct grade no lower than passing (P).
  • Student maintains an A in all dance courses.
  • Student takes Dance Company 9th-12th grade.
